raspberry pi security camera with bluetooth check

What are the main features?

I have built a security camera using a Raspberry Pi Zero, built the case with camera mount, easy to mount to a wall. Designed using OpenSCAD, so it’s fully parametric.

The main feature of this security camera is that it captures the movements and emails them to you, but first it checks if you are at home by trying to connect to your phone via bluetooth. If there are multiple people living at home, the camera is checking for all the bluetooth connections and emails the movement if there are noone at home.

3D parts

Simply download the STL files and print them.

Install

I used Motion Project for the security camera, later I wrote a simply python script to try to connect to my phone via bluetooth to tell if I am away or not, then email the latest taken picture.

You can follow the steps here to install the software.

After you install the motion software, you need to tell motion to use a python script on movement. See line 648 on motion.conf file

on_picture_save 'python /home/pi/home_security/movement_on_camera.py >> /home/pi/home_security/access.log '

Your bluetooth device address and connection

See the below python file and see the XX:XX:XX… addresses. Raspberry pi tries to connect to your bluetooth to see if the phone is in a reachable area. So edit your code and add as many devices as you like and add your devices’ MAC addresses to the script. Also do not forget to change the email address on the below script.

Two find the bluetooth mac address and device name of your phone you can simply run

hcitool scan

on a unix terminal.

sleep(5)

f1 = open('/home/pi/home_security/person_1_is_connected.txt')
s1 = mmap.mmap(f1.fileno(), 0, access=mmap.ACCESS_READ)

f2 = open('/home/pi/home_security/person_2_is_connected.txt')
s2 = mmap.mmap(f2.fileno(), 0, access=mmap.ACCESS_READ)

device_2_clue = 'Device Name: PERSON2DEVICENAME'

if s1.find(device_1_clue) == -1 and s2.find(device_2_clue) == -1:
	print "Noone is at home, alarm!"
	os.system('sudo mpack -s "Hey, your security camera has detected motion!" '+latest_file+' [email protected] [email protected]')

How to send email

At the beginning of this post, I gave a link above, please follow the steps to install the necessary packages and then you can setup your email sending mechanism.

Hope you enjoy and let me know if you need more details about the security camera setup.
