I will talk about my personal method on how to make a priority list of things that you want to do.
Why to make a priority list?
If you have big dreams and don’t know where to start or small errands are always blocking you to take a step on the path to your projects, it’s better to organise your ideas first and prioritise them to know where to start from.
Step 1: Make a list
First, you need to write down every single project in your mind. They can be small tasks like “clean the flat” or big ones like “build a chocolate factory”. Just randomly make a list and don’t worry about the importance of them. Her eis an example:
- Build a personal website
- Start your own coffee business
- Take the car to the service
- Learn a new language
- Visit Cuba
- Get a PhD on cultural anthropology
- Buy new clothes
Step 2: Give them a difficulty rate
Lets define how hard it is to complete each mission. I use numbers on the Fibonacci Series as the difficulty.

Step 3: Define their importance
Give importance on each item from 1 to 10 and divide the difficulty to the importance (1 is not important, 10 is very important). The number will give you the weight of the list item. The importance is of course depends on you, if you are going to promote yourself on internet, then building a website should be very important for you.
- Build a personal website 8/10 = 0.8
- Start your own coffee business 89/2 = 44.5
- Take the car to the service 1/10 = 0.1
- Learn a new language 34/5 = 6.8
- Visit Cuba 8/2 = 4
- Get a PhD on cultural anthropology 144/5 = 28.8
- Buy new clothes 1/3 = 0.33
Step 4: Rearrange the list according to the weight of the list items
The lightest one goes first
- Take the car to the service 1/10 = 0.1
- Buy new clothes 1/3 = 0.33
- Build a personal website 8/10 = 0.8
- Visit Cuba 8/2 = 4
- Learn a new language 34/5 = 6.8
- Get a PhD on cultural anthropology 144/5 = 28.8
- Start your own coffee business 89/2 = 44.5
Step 5: Add new items
Of course there will be things to add to the list from every now and then, just keep adding new items and rearrange by the weights.
